Why this weekend matters

Seventh and eighth grade is when the big questions start: Is any of this real? Does it hold up? Do I actually believe what I've been told, or is it just what my family does?

These are good questions — and students are asking them whether or not they have anywhere safe to bring them.

At Jr. High Retreat, we spend one weekend helping students discover that their faith has real answers, and that following Jesus can stand up to the hardest questions they'll face. This year's theme is apologetics — students will explore what it means to fight the good fight of faith. They'll worship, dig into Scripture with leaders who know them, and come home with real ways to answer the questions they're wrestling with.

Worship & Teaching

Engaging large-group worship and Bible teaching built around this year's apologetics theme — real, age-appropriate answers to the questions students are already asking.

Small Group Time

Students spend focused time in small groups with leaders they know from week to week at Veritas — a space to process what they're learning and ask the questions they might not ask out loud in a crowd.

Team Activities and Games

Team activities and late-night games round out the weekend, giving students room to build real friendships alongside their leaders and peers.

East Iowa Bible Camp. Round-trip transportation is provided via Cedar Rapids school buses, departing from and returning to Veritas Church.

This is a great first retreat — leaders are experienced, the schedule is well-paced for newer students, and older students help set the tone for the weekend.

Families can request financial support — no student should miss the retreat over cost.

Cell phone use is typically limited so students can stay present and engaged. If you need to reach your student, you’ll be able to contact a leader directly. Emergency contact information will be provided before camp.
