I don’t typically ruminate on sermons after I preach them because of the weeks of thought and prayer I’ve put into them, but I can’t get Psalm 67:1-2 out of my mind. The Lord continues to stir my soul for his way and salvation to be made known on the earth.
As God moves in my own heart, my prayer is that one day every single member of Veritas would be active participants in the amazing mission that God has entrusted to us to glorify him to the ends of the earth. This is not a hope for us to be passionate about global missions. It’s a prayer for us to be zealous for our God to receive the praise he deserves around the entire globe.
This prayer is rooted in a call to love God more than anything this world offers. It’s a call for us to find our joy in God above all. It’s a call to live holy lives for the sake of His glory. It’s a call to proclaim His excellencies through word and deed as a result of the work He has done within us.
As that happens, my hope is that our worship of the Lord would overflow beyond our community to the ends of the earth. May our experience of God’s grace and our worship of him grow into…
- Needing to find bigger spaces for monthly global prayer because we have so many people praying for the lost and missionaries going to them
- Regular lunch conversations with international co-workers that become less uncomfortable because they happen so frequently
- People changing their lifestyle habits in order to give faithfully to support gospel work here, and more local church members being sent
- More college students being sent to more places and people each summer
- Non-college students and families uprooting their American lives to be sent overseas
- Teams of people in our body caring deeply for each missionary we send
For clarity’s sake, more and bigger aren’t the goals here. A deeper passion for Jesus is what we’re after. May God be so kind to us to allow that passion to overflow into him being worshiped in more places, including the places he’s currently not being worshiped.
Veritas, may the glory of our great God never get out of our minds, never cease impacting our lives, and always be the passion of our hearts! May it start now, never cease, and happen with every nation, tribe, people, and language.
After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen” (Revelation 7:9-12).
