What was life like before you met Jesus?

I grew up in a household that went to church most Sundays, but I never truly understood the sacrifice Jesus made for me. I knew who Jesus was, but I didn't actually know Him. I found my joy in the approval of others and performing well, whether in sports or school. All I got from living like this was happiness from circumstances or outcomes. There is failure in all those things, so my joy was never stable— I knew I was lacking something.

How did you meet Jesus?

I was interested in knowing more about Jesus, so in 2020, I made it a goal to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. When the pandemic hit in March, I had so much time to intentionally dive into God’s word and get a deeper understanding of the sacrifice Jesus made for me. In times of great uncertainty, I was presented with an unshakeable joy and steadiness from my Father. His Word became so delightful to me. I was amazed that Jesus Christ lived a perfectly obedient life, and died for my sins. By believing in His death and resurrection, He not only takes away my sins, but He covers me with righteousness so that God’s justice towards me is eternally satisfied. Romans 5:1 says “Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ.” I can find security, satisfaction, and salvation in my Lord and Savior.

After being saved by Jesus, what is your life like now?

After being saved by Jesus, I now experience an indestructible joy that nothing else will ever measure up to. His joy is overflowing in me, and God has given me the boldness to share my faith with my roommates, teammates, and others on my college campus. I want everyone to know about the goodness of Christ— He didn’t just come to make us better; He made us alive! Ephesians 2:4-5 says “But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ.” Jesus was crucified and I am now a new creation in Him. I rejoice in all things because I get to have a relationship with God right now and for eternity.
