Before Jesus Changed My Life

A couple of years back I had cheated on my girlfriend at the time. Many months later we both moved away for college, and then she found out. She forgave me but our relationship was so unstable for a long time. My freshman year of college was rough. I found myself depressed and wanting to isolate myself. I thought that if I just resolved my relationship with her then everything would be fine. Our relationship never got back to where it was. I knew I had to figure things out on my own. I deleted all social media and didn’t speak to very many people over the summer. At the end of the summer we started to talk again. Things were going well until we moved back into college again and things went south. I lashed out at her. It was an out-of-the-ordinary lash out, and in that moment I realized the efforts of me trying to cure my brokenness over the summer by myself was not enough. I needed to depend on God. Before God, I struggled with lust, swearing, idolatry and being quick to anger.

How Jesus Changed My Life

Jesus saved my life. He cured me of my depressed thoughts. Growing up I never had a relationship with Jesus. However, looking back, there was a friend in highschool that had always planted seeds. A couple months into my Sophomore year I was invited into a connection group. I instantly enjoyed it and wanted to be more involved. When I received my first Bible from one of the leaders I knew this was the step I needed to take. The biggest step that aided my faith was deciding to attend Salt Conference. It was an amazing event, and when I saw just how many people were there to worship God, I knew He is great. During Conference, my friend and I decided that we would be “swim buddies”. We could talk to each other and build our faith together. We promised not to hide anything and to be comfortable with having hard conversations. One of my favorite verses that resembles this is Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.”

My Life After Jesus Saved Me

My life has been so great after deciding to give it all to God. Several of my peers have told me that they see a huge change in my mood and energy. I have noticed that if someone insults me or does something that makes me angry, I think more about the situation and do not lash out. When I do fall into sin, I turn to Jesus, and then I turn to my “swim buddy” or people in my connection group. I have met so many great people through my journey. The man I was before living through God compared to the man now living through God is night and day. I know that I have eternal life through Jesus Christ because he died on the cross for our sins. He knows that sin is a part of our lives and it is important to know that we are forgiven through Jesus. Satan wants us to dwell on our sin and steer us further and further from God. Jesus died for forgiveness.
