Before Jesus Changed My Life

I was passive in the past; I had not developed a relationship with the Lord, but I did believe that Jesus died for my sins. Attending church services was just a box to check, and my relationship with God did not exist outside of the four walls of Veritas. I found myself becoming angry quickly and having growing anxiety that would not allow me time to rest and reflect, and spending time with the Lord was not a priority in my life. Prayer was not a common concept in our household. My husband and I had lived together before we were married, and we had been influenced more by the world than by the faith we both professed to have. We looked to the world for validation. It was not until we started attending Veritas and learned we were expecting our first child that God began to soften our hearts and draw us towards him.

How Jesus Changed My Life

My husband and I began a Bible study of the Gospel of Matthew. We wanted to learn more so that when our children began asking questions about our faith, we could have answers or know where to look for them. We also desired to grow closer to the Lord so he could lead our lives, as we had been engaging with other strong believers and realized they had a peace we did not know. Reading Matthew opened my eyes to the Lord's true love and justice. The beatitudes helped me understand the ethics, humility, mercy, righteousness, and love that Jesus wants his followers to have. It helped to realize how I should shape my life and interact with others. The death and resurrection of Jesus also had an impact, as the Lord gave his only son. The Lord truly gave us the greatest gift that we would never be deserving of. Other verses outside of the gospel that have drawn me closer to the Lord come from James. “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing” (James 1:2-4). This one has stuck with me through time. It constantly reminds me to find joy in my everyday life, even when it is difficult.

The Lord sent his Son to die for our sins to give his believers new life, a gift we did not deserve. We were and still are sinners in need of salvation, and the only way is through Jesus. As is stated in Romans 5:6-8, “For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ”

My Life After Jesus Saved Me

Through this revelation, we have made the Lord more central to our lives. Whenever I have a problem, I turn to Him for answers. I continue to try to learn as much as I can so that God can guide me through parenthood and life in general. It has given me peace knowing our Lord and has helped a lot with my anxiety. Having God at the center of our marriage has allowed us to grow closer and be a stronger couple overall. It brings me great joy and peace that I have found eternal life through Jesus. I know I have eternal life because I have placed my faith in Jesus Christ, whose death and resurrection have secured my salvation.
