Before Jesus Changed My Life
Since I can remember, I have always “believed” in Jesus, but I had never put my faith in Him or followed him. My mom passed away in 2020, and I was in a bad way. I was over-indulging in earthly pleasures and living in sin and despair. I was in an abusive homosexual relationship for years. I was dead in my sin. I knew it was wrong. I tried to get out of that situation on my own, but I couldn’t.
How Jesus Changed My Life
Christ saved me from a 3-year-long homosexual relationship about 2 years ago. I knew I needed out of it a long time before I actually left. The only way I was able to finally leave was, I believe to be a miracle of sorts. The night I ended it, I left my house to go to the gas station to buy some liquid courage. As I was walking in, my best friend was walking out, and I broke down in tears, telling him what I was gearing up to do. I got home, sat in my garage, and prayed. I prayed HARD, for the strength and guidance to do what I knew needed to be done. I got inside, sat him down, and ended things. Didn’t even crack the beer I bought. No screaming or hitting, like there had been many times in the past. It felt like I was on autopilot. It was serene. I don’t feel like I can even take credit for ending things, it truly felt like the Holy Spirit took over and did it for me. I knew from that moment that I had to give my life to Christ. I am far from a model Christian and have a lot more work to do, but I believe Jesus pulled me out of that for a reason. I have come to fully believe that the gospel is the truth of Jesus’s life as a man on earth, who came to save us all. It is the good news given to us through the four authors of the Gospels. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16). He gave His life so that I could be reconciled to God and have his own righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21).
My Life After Jesus Saved Me
Since my conversion experience, I started coming to church worship gatherings a lot more, and it immediately felt a change in my spirit. Before, when I would go to a church service, I really wasn’t a fan of the music at all, I was just ready to sit down. But after Jesus saved me, it has become my favorite part, and I often cry during the worship of our Savior. My prayers have become more genuine, and I am constantly trying to grow my relationship with God whenever I’m going through a tough time. I still mess up, as we all do, but now sin feels weightier than it did before because I know what Jesus did to pay for it. I struggle with falling into despair and feeling like I’m damaged goods. Unlovable. But when I turn to Jesus and remember his love I know I’m wrong. My saving faith in Jesus is a beacon of light for me to follow. I take comfort in what Paul writes to the Romans 8:1–8, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”
