From Struggle to Strength in Christ | Jake Rogers Story

Before Jesus changed my life, I was lost in sin. My words lacked meaning and wisdom, often spoken without thought. Lustful thoughts consumed my mind, and I struggled with self-control in every aspect of my life. As a result, I felt depressed, empty, and unmotivated. I had no clear direction, no purpose, and nothing to live for. Deep down, I knew something was missing. Though I had heard of God, I never truly sought Him, read His Word, or followed His path. I was drifting, searching for fulfillment in all the wrong places.

I played baseball with a guy named Alec Boldt, an incredible teammate who led Bible studies for our team. At my lowest point, I decided to attend one of them, not knowing how much it would change my life. Alec helped me understand the Word of God and what it truly meant to live for Him. He showed me that following God isn’t just a belief, and it’s a life-changing journey.

At first, I still struggled with the desire to go to church or even attend the Bible studies regularly. But over time, I started digging into the Word on my own. It became more than just words on a page, and it became a source of encouragement and motivation. I began reading not out of obligation, but out of a genuine desire to grow and learn. This transformation has taken over two years. Before, I would only talk to God when I was struggling, treating prayer as a last resort rather than a daily relationship. Now, I’ve come to understand the deeper meaning of prayer and how to seek Him in all aspects of life. Alec showed me different ways to read my Bible, and going to church helped me grasp how to apply its teachings.

One verse that has always stood out to me is Proverbs 12:24: “Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.” This verse reminds me that I can’t be passive in my relationship with God and that I must actively seek Him. Through church, Bible studies, and listening to the experiences of others, I have learned so much about faith and what it means to truly walk with God. Jesus has transformed my life, giving me purpose, direction, and a relationship that continues to grow every day.

Another strong verse that is always encouraging to me is Isaiah 41:10, which says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” Similar to that, Joshua 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” I know He is always with me regardless of the situation or trial I am going through. I always put my full trust in Him and praise Him for that.

Jesus has saved me and shown me the light. Through Him, I have learned the right way to live and have gained wisdom from His Word to guide my daily life. Though I still struggle with sin at times, my self-control has grown tremendously, and I know He has been my strength in overcoming my past struggles. My hope is found in Jesus. In times of need, I turn to Him in prayer, seeking His guidance and comfort. No matter the circumstance, I rely on His Word for wisdom and encouragement. I now understand that my identity is in Him, and this has given me a deeper sense of purpose.

Whenever I struggle, I bring my worries before Him, expressing my love and asking for His help and strength. One verse that always reminds me of His presence is Psalm 46:1, which says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” This truth keeps me grounded, knowing that He is always with me. I seek Him not only in difficult times but also in gratitude, showing my love through prayer and by striving to live according to His commandments. By His grace, I have been saved, and my life has been transformed.
