Before Jesus Changed My Life
Before Jesus truly changed my life, I was stuck in sin and lost in this broken and sinful world. I was trying to live life on my own terms and deal with everything by myself. I thought I could handle my struggles on my own, and I tried to fix my problems without really turning to God. I did what I thought was right in my own eyes instead of seeking what God wanted for my life.
Even though I believed in Jesus and had always known about Him, I wasn’t truly living for Him. I kept trying to carry the weight of my struggles alone instead of giving them to God. During that time in my life, I struggled a lot with anxiety and depression. There were many moments where I felt overwhelmed and felt like I had nowhere to turn with everything I was feeling.
Looking back now, I can see that I was trying to find peace and purpose in things that could never truly satisfy me. I was living for the things of this world instead of living for the One who created me. I believed in Jesus, but I had never fully surrendered my life to Him. I was still trying to be in control of everything. But even when I was distant and trying to handle everything on my own, God never left me. By His grace, He continued to pursue me and show me that there was a better way. The Bible says in the Epistle to the Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” When I look back on my life before fully turning to Jesus, I realize how true that verse is. I needed a Savior.
How Jesus Changed My Life
Jesus changed my life by being the only light I had when I was in my darkest moment. When I felt alone and like no one else understood what I was going through, Jesus was still there. Even when I didn’t fully realize it at the time, He was always guiding me and calling me back to Him. There was a moment in my life when I realized I couldn’t keep living the way I was living. I couldn’t keep carrying the weight of my struggles, my sin, and my anxiety on my own. I knew I needed God in my life in a real way. I remember one night when I finally went to God in prayer and completely opened my heart to Him. I prayed something like, “God, I really need You. I can’t do this on my own anymore. I give everything to you because I can’t handle it by myself. Please show me Your love and help me walk the path that You have planned for me.” In that moment, something changed in my heart. I remember feeling a huge weight lifted off of me, like a burden I had been carrying for so long was finally gone. It reminded me of what Jesus says in the Gospel of Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
After that moment, I started turning to God more and more. I began reading His Word, and it spoke to my heart and gave me a peace that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I began to understand more clearly what Jesus did for me on the cross. Jesus didn’t just come to teach good things—He came to save us. He took the punishment for my sins so that I could be forgiven and have eternal life through Him. The Bible explains this in the Epistle to the Romans 5:8: “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Because of that truth, I have come to fully embrace Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. It says in the Epistle to the Romans 1:16–17: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’”
My Life After Jesus Saved Me
Since giving my life to Jesus, my life has changed in ways that are hard to fully describe. I now have a peace in my heart that I didn’t have before. I know that no matter what happens in my life, I am not facing it alone. That doesn’t mean my life is perfect now. I still make mistakes and struggle at times. But the difference now is that I know where to turn. Instead of trying to carry everything by myself, I bring it to God and trust Him to guide me. The Bible says in the Second Epistle to the Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” That verse reminds me that through Jesus, my life has truly been changed, and God is continuing to work in me every day.
My hope is in what Jesus did for me on the cross. He took a punishment that he didn't deserve because he loved me so much. Because of His sacrifice, my sins are forgiven and I have the promise of eternal life with Him. The Bible says in the Epistle to the Ephesians 2:8–9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Today I am choosing to be baptized as a public declaration of my faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism does not save me, Jesus already did that, but it is a way for me to show that my life now belongs to Him. Jesus saved my life, and because of Him I now have hope, peace, purpose, and the promise of eternal life.
