Description
In this episode, Sam and Danny discuss yesterday’s sermon from Daniel 5 and how we can detect our pride by asking where we’re rejecting God’s rule and refusing God’s wisdom. We unpack the main points from the sermon and go beyond yesterday with additional insight into the text.
In Daniel 5, we trace Belshazzar’s late–night party crash—God’s hand on the palace wall—and ask what pride looks like when it’s gone invisible in us. Daniel exposes two tell-tale symptoms: challenging God’s authority and ignoring God’s voice. We contrast the king’s bravado with Daniel’s decades-long humility and point to the better Daniel—Jesus—whose humility saves and reshapes ours.
Message Highlights:
- Main Point: Detect your pride by asking where you’re rejecting God’s rule and refusing God’s wisdom
- Pride is incredibly poisonous and difficult to detect
- There are two symptoms by which we can detect pride that we see in Daniel 5. 1) Pride always challenges God’s authority. 2) Pride always ignores God’s voice.
- How to apply this: Trade the heart of a king for the heart of a child. The heart of a child looks like hiding in God’s savior in the person and work of Jesus.
- Humility of knowing who you are before God is the path of true freedom.
